Students gather to protest on abortion rights

As students were walking through campus to get to class on Monday afternoon, they were surprised to see the protest occurring on the Academic Quad by the Women’s Resource Center and the American Society for the Defense of Tradition. Around 12:00 pm a sign was held in front of the campus fountain that said “Pray the rosary to end abortions.” Shortly after the BU’s Women’s Resource Center decided to have a table in support of abortions that was organized by Albra Wheeler.

“There was a group by the name of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property here on campus spreading information about the horrors and ungodliness of abortion. The Women’s Resource Center of BU actually set up a counter protest in support of Women’s rights to abortion,” said Malik Muhammad, coordinator of sexual and gender diversity.

Both organizations were handing out pamphlets as students were walking by. Eventually some students started making their own signs saying “pro-choice” while other students began covering the end abortions sign with white sheets.

Many students were not pleased with  the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property organizations. Many began questioning members of the organization about their beliefs on abortion rights.

“Are you guys even allowed to do this, did you get permission?” said a student.“This is not okay at all.

There were students from both sides of pro-life and pro-choice who expressively shared their opinions on the quad about what they believed with abortion rights.  The protest lasted a couple hours.
