Zendaya, “Schitt’s Creek,” and “Watchmen” win big at 2020 Emmys

“Of course, we don’t have an audience,” host Jimmy Kimmel said. “This isn’t a MAGA rally, it’s the Emmys!”

The 72nd Emmy Awards were held virtually on Sept. 20. Host Jimmy Kimmel and several guest presenters spoke on stage while the nominees were virtually present for the ceremony.

Much of Kimmel’s dialogue focused on the tension and fear that the year 2020 has brought us. Kimmel kept a lighthearted tone that felt appropriate for the occasion.

It was inherently less glamorous this year without the red carpet. Despite the adjustments and roadblocks for this year’s Awards, the ceremony ran smoothly.

The Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek made headlines after taking home a total of nine Emmy awards. Zendaya became the youngest woman to win the Best Actress in a Drama Emmy for her role in HBO’s Euphoria. There was even a mini-Friends reunion between Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, and Courtney Cox.
