Freshman Kelly Leszcynski out of Nazareth Pa is a sensational athlete here at Bloomsburg. In the winter she thrived on the court for the women’s basketball team. Now in the spring, she is thriving for the Huskies in track and field. Leszcynski competes in Javelin for the Huskies. In the Javelin throw at the Bison Outdoor classic Leszcynski threw a career-best and school-record 43.48 (142-8). The throw surpassed the school’s previous record of 42.98m (141’) which was set in 2015 by Morgan Nicholoson.

Leszcynski first got into Javelin during her freshman year in high school. She was also on the basketball team. Playing two sports can be hard for anyone. But Leszcynski really enjoyed Javelin as well, that’s why she kept going.

“ The thing I enjoy most about Javelin is that it is very different from all other sports that I play,” said Leszcynski.

In basketball there is so much pressure in the moment and in Javelin, I feel as though I can enjoy myself and have a lot of fun,” said Leszcynski.

Unlike when she plays basketball, Leszcynski likes that in Javelin she can compete individually.

Coming out of high school Leszcynski chose Bloomsburg because she was committed here to play on the women’s basketball team. It wasn’t until May that she decided that she wanted to throw the Javelin as well in college. Prior to her decision to throw the Javelin here at Bloomsburg. Leszcynski always chose to come to Bloomsburg.

I decided to come to Bloomsburg because I really loved the campus and Bloomsburg also has a really good teaching program,” said Leszcynski.

Coming to Bloomsburg was a great choice for her. She has thrived on the court and on the track field.

When Leszcynski broke the record she didn’t even know. “I wasn’t aware that I broke the school record until one of my teammates came up to me and told me I broke it, “ she said.

Leszcynski went on to say, “I was super excited to hear that I broke it.”

Leszcynski also won the Shippensburg Mid-Week Meet this year. As she had a toss of 42.18 meters. That would go on to be her third-longest throw of the season.

Leszcynski has been having a great year for the Huskies. And she is doing that by having fun and enjoying the moment. She has been putting in hard work on and off the field. The hard work is showing in her good results.

As the season winds down Leszcynski still has some goals she wants to reach on the field. Those goals include for her to get back to her personal best number throwing . And she also wants to throw well at the PSACs when that time comes.
