On Saturday, October 14th, the annual Bloomsburg Alumni Tent Event took place outside the Fenstermaker Alumni House before the Homecoming football game, and it was truly a rain-or-shine celebration.
514 Huskies came back for an afternoon of ten different local food trucks and vendors, a performance from the Bloomsburg Cheerleaders, and reconnecting with old friends and former classmates. Guests who registered in advance were greeted with Bloomsburg rally towels, ponchos, and $15 worth of vouchers to spend at the food trucks around the parking lot.
Old trays that used to be used in Scranton Commons could also be purchased The Bloomsburg University Alumni Association as well as the Bloomsburg University Foundation were also present, with tables showing off the accomplishments made by the generous donations made by Bloomsburg alumni over the years.
“I always feel uplifted after I’ve been here and seeing people,” remarks Sharon Gettel, class of 1978, “reliving the memories and all the experiences I had here. Being on the field hockey team, being in a sorority.” Gettel has a long history of being involved in Bloomsburg happenings post-grad, including previously serving on the Alumni Board and currently holding a seat on the Bloomsburg University Foundation Board of Directors.
“I remember, as a freshman, was the christening of Redman Stadium,” recalls Gettel, commenting on how much the Bloomsburg campus landscape has changed. Bloomsburg’s upper campus had no student housing where Jessica S. Kozloff, Montgomery Place, and Mount Olympus Apartments would eventually come to be. The Student Recreation Center we know today also looked vastly different. There was a field where the Student Rec. Center track stands today, and this is where Gettel could be found playing field hockey during her time as a student.
The sentiment of reliving the good old days was in the air as many attendees went on to Redman Stadium for the Homecoming football game and to support their alma mater. No amount of rain could drive out the school spirit from Fenstermaker Alumni House.
