What’s happening:
For The Cause Teen Center opens a new location on 36 E. Main Street and is looking for Bloomsburg students to tutor local youths. Tutors can count their time at the center towards community service hours while gaining experience with grades 7-12 in English, Math, Science, and History.
Why it matters:
“Our center serves as a welcoming and inclusive space for all teens in the community, regardless of their background or academic standing,” shares Teen Center Director Danielle Pearson.
Tutors have the opportunity to collaborate with other staff members to create educational programs and resources, positively impacting the Bloomsburg community.
Background:
For The Cause is known for its community outreach, Food Distribution Program, and Berwick Teen Center. Originally named The Nespoli Family Foundation, the organization has been involved in philanthropy since 2008. Expansion into Bloomsburg began in 2022 in efforts to provide “academic assistance, mentorship, social activities, and a safe environment [for teens] to spend their free time.”
“We are looking for tutors who not only excel and are comfortable in their subjects but also exhibit a genuine passion for teaching,” states Pearson, though students of any major can volunteer.
On Jan. 16th, 2024, the Bloomsburg location opened its doors for the first time. The lack of signage outside the Center is due to a total rebranding and with new logo design.
