From 2005-13, Coach John Stutzman posted an impressive 97-56-1 record, ranking him 3rd all-time in coaching wins in the Bloomsburg wrestling program. At the beginning of the 2013 wrestling season, he moved to a new program as the University of Buffalo’s Head Wrestling Coach.
Stutzman would stay for the next 11 years, posting an 89-107 record with the program.
The biggest question on most wrestling fans’ minds around campus is, “Why come back to the old school you were previously with”.
“It took me 3 years to realize that my kids, my wife, and even I really wanted to be back in Pennsylvania. My kids were born here and I have an everlasting history with this place I think I could only avoid for so long.”
When asked about how he feels the wrestling program changed from where he left it in 2013, he stated, “I never discredit anybody’s work, what’s done is done. I’m just happy and lucky to be back and help rebuild the fanbase and tradition that I know Bloomsburg Wrestling can be”.
“Short-term goals for this program is making sure our athletes are competing at a high energy level and being exceptional student-athletes on and off the mat. Long-term goals are bringing this program back to its previous glory, molding some All Americans/World Champions, and making sure our athletes graduate and go on to lead healthy, successful lives.”
“Honestly, the most important and appealing long-term objective is 15-20 years down the line, seeing a stable and successful program for this university and even my kids.”
Stutzman has raved about the overwhelming support from faculty, alumni, community, and players themselves about the revamped wrestling staff.
“I believe I’m coming into this program wiser, more mature, and a better coach overall. It’s an exciting experience and opportunity that I’m so awesomely lucky to be able to go through again. It will take time but I see the potential and prosperity in the future undoubtedly”.
