What happened: Commonwealth University Bloomsburg’s on-campus housing numbers return to pre-COVID occupancy, almost five years later.
Why it matters: Freshman enrollment numbers are increasing and the mandated two-year on-campus living rule demands more housing options than Bloomsburg has seen since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The background: According to Amy Cunningham, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Bloomsburg Campus is maintaining an 89.1% occupancy rate, with students filling 2,961 of the 3,306 spaces.
The COVID-19 pandemic temporarily affected housing occupancy, but Cunningham notes, “This is really our first time that feels like fall of 2019. We’re back to where we were prior to COVID.” This return to normalcy has been welcomed by both students and the administration.
Reopening floors in Schuylkill Hall ensures no negative impact on student housing availability following the closure of Montour Hall, which has been taken offline due to aging infrastructure.
This academic year welcomed 1,267 first-year students into on-campus housing, a 10% increase in housing capacity from last year.
