The start of the semester is pretty chaotic, but in case you missed the first two Career
Connections Expos, I’m here with a way to remedy the situation.
First, you do not have to be looking for a job to attend. These are great ways to explore
potential careers, practice networking, connect with some of the companies you are interested
in, and get advice from alumni who have been in your shoes! The sooner your start, not only will
you practice networking, you could begin a connection with your future employer.
But don’t take my word for it, get it right from the source:
It’s important to start building your networking skillset as early as possible. When it comes
to students being hesitant, the more practice they get face-to-face with professionals, the
better. It’s an invaluable experience— and we’re not scary, it’s just a conversation!
– Kasey Mulberry, Trout CPA
Second, If you ARE looking for a job or internship, don’t miss the Education Expo on October
10 and the Government, Non-Profit and Human Services Expo coming up October 21-23.
Don’t let your nerves get in the way of securing your future! Make a plan, and get prepared!
“My biggest misconception about meeting employers was thinking they’d be intimidating,
but in reality, they’re just excited to get to know you!”
– Nathan Smith, Junior at CU
Even if you speak with an employer who doesn’t align perfectly with your career plan, they have
connections too! Make that great first impression and they can connect you with someone in
your industry. Mark your calendars for October 10 and October 21-23. Check out the
employers who will be there when you register on Handshake.
