New vending machines were spotted in the Warren Student Services Center following the sudden closing of Roongo’s. The Bloomsburg Campus is no stranger to change. With the new administration and newly reopened McCormick Center, things around campus are constantly changing. One department undergoing major change has been dining. In the wake of Roongo’s closing during the 2025 spring semester, new options for quick, convenient meals were promised via email to students on April 7, 2025. The email, sent by CU Dining, outlined dining changes on all three campuses. In terms of Bloomsburg, CU Dining stated, “Roongo’s Café will close after the Spring 2025 semester. Many of Roongo’s most popular menu items will still be available at locations on campus. Self-serve options will be installed in the Warren Student Services Center.”
Over the summer, Campus Dish, an official university website detailed service hours and menus for three new food options, with more information “coming soon”. The options include Just Baked, Byte Box, and Costa Coffee. While no specific information was provided, a Costa Coffee machine was spotted in the vacant space by PSECU in the Warren Student Services Center earlier in the semester, with two additional kiosks being moved into the space in recent weeks. Based on prior statements, there will be new self-service options in the Warren Student Center, but there has been no direct confirmation that these are the future dining options. Administration previously reported to The Voice that the changes in dining were due to Roongo’s track record of losing money since the COVID-19 pandemic. It was reported by The Voice that up to $12,000 was estimated to be lost per semester if Roongo’s remained open.
Now, with no replacement, the campus community must find new places to get a bite to eat in-between classes and meetings. Junior Tom Melvin states, “After looking at my classmates and their schedules over the first few days, Levi, Zach and I decided to go get breakfast together at Roongo’s. This became a tradition due to a 15-minute break between classes.”
Courtesy of John Scheers, Marketing Manager of Aramark, stated “We look forward to opening this location soon as we work through technological specifications.” While it is not confirmed when these locations will be opening, there are plans for alternative food choices.
