Bloomsburg University has received $10.7 million as a part of the American Rescue Plan and Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III).

“Bloomsburg University has received federal COVID-19 relief funding, which will provide additional financial assistance, in the form of block grants and special conditions awards, to all enrolled students due to the financial impact of the pandemic,” BU said in a news posting on Sep. 2.

The grants that are being awarded to students range from $200 to $1,250 for the fall 2021 semester. The money is being awarded based on each student’s submitted FAFSA and expected family contribution. Students with no submitted FAFSA will receive $200, according to BU’s news post.

“These grants may be used for any component of a student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care, or childcare,” BU’s news post said.

Students were expected to have their payment made to the account indicated in the student’s direct deposit information on MyHusky on approximately September 7th , according to an email student’s received regarding the grant.

Business Management major Angel Le was one of the students to receive this grant, with an award of $1,050.

“This grant was a surprise to me and likely to all other students. My financial aid is always pending due to verification and other factors, and this grant appeared at the right moment for me,” Le said.

Le went on to say, “I was concerned that I would have to go home each weekend to work to keep up with rent and food money, but this grant lifted some stress of my shoulders, and I am very thankful that Bloomsburg was able to distribute this money to their student body.”
