David L. Soltz Hall has been experiencing active leaks over the past few months. The most recent leaks have been noticeable on the first floor of Soltz where Chik-fil-a and Qdoba are housed. The temporary solution to the leaks has been several buckets placed accordingly to catch the water.
The leaks are not a new issue to maintenance teams, according to Associate Vice President of Facilities Management, Stacy Wagner.
“We have been struggling since Soltz was built trying to identify the location of a leak into the seating area,” said Wagner.
The maintenance department has been trying to locate the leak. So far their attempts have included removing the roofing material on the patio and flooding it and flooding the curtain wall with water.
“It seems like [the] problem area of the curtain wall is the section of windows. We are now trying to identify where the water is getting in around the windows to identify how to fix it,” said Wagner.
The next step in solving the leaks, according to Wagner, is to review the construction drawings to identify how the curtain wall culprit was meant to have been constructed. The maintenance department will then cut into the drywall to identify how the curtain wall was constructed.
“I think we are very close to finally figuring this out,” said Wagner.
