What’s happening:
Construction remains on schedule to conclude at the end of the Spring 2025 semester, with all three floors of the building at least 90% complete with ceiling tiles, drywall and painting. Renovations include brand-new nursing equipment and virtual education spaces.
Why it matters:
Over the summer of 2025, teachers and faculty will move into the building in preparation for the upcoming semester.
“We will meet the completion of the project at the end of December, like we talked about originally,” assures Assistant Director of Facilities for Planning and Construction, Emile Mikle. However, this does not mean the building will be open for the Spring 2025 semester.
What is left:
“We’re in the process right now of getting the furniture package together”
Mikle and his team seek funding from the Department of General Services (DGA) for furnishing the building. Since temporary ownership of the building has been signed off to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, DGA must grant the finances for this aspect of the project.
“The intent is if we can get the funding in time, we would like to have [furniture population] completed by May or June 2025,… then the move will take place afterward.” Furniture will resemble pieces found around the Arts & Administration building.
The third floor, dedicated to the nursing department, will house state-of-the-art nursing equipment. Although the first floor will feature the $5.3 million Kerby Confer Media Center, new equipment was not deemed necessary. Radio station equipment was purchased only in 2019 and “upgrades to the TV studio equipment have been ongoing for the last several years and we have plans to continue through 2027,” states Video Production Specialist Asa Kelley.
