What Happened: Flyers calling for students to participate in a walkout to demand accountability of CU President Bashar Hanna emerged on campus on April 22. The planned date is April 30 at 2 p.m. outside of Carver Hall.
Why it Matters: The flyers cite several grievances against Hanna, first and foremost being alleged “abuse of power,” as well as recent fee increases and claims of overworked faculty.
The Background: On the flyers is a QR code that links to a Google form to sign up for the walkout. On the form, the organizers claim, “This will be a peaceful protest,” before going on to state, “We will gather in front of Carver Hall and express our displeasure with Bashar’s leadership and PASSHE’s decisions.”
This comes after several events faced by university administration, including a recent increase in housing and dining fees for the 25-26 academic year and a faculty vote of no confidence, which saw over 88% of faculty across CU’s campuses express no confidence in Hanna.
