Red Sox take care of Dodgers to claim World Series title

For the second consecutive season, the World Series champions were crowned at Dodger Stadium, neither of which the Los Angeles Dodgers won. In 2017, it was the Houston Astros and this year for the ninth time in franchise history, and the fourth time since 2004, the Boston Red Sox are the champions of Major League Baseball.

In 2018 the Boston Red Sox finished the regular season with an incredible record of 108-54, tied for sixth all-time for wins in a single season. The New York Yankees and Houston Astros also finished with over 100 wins in the regular season. The Red Sox were heavily favored by analysts, commentators, and many other experts (even some members of The Voice).

In the AL divisional round, the Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees in four games in a best of five series. To rub it in, the Red Sox had a little fun and mockingly played “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra in the locker room during their celebration after winning the ALDS.

Winning the Yankees series punched Boston’s ticket to play yet another 100-win club, this time against the team that prevented them from moving on last year, the Houston Astros. The Astros were no trouble for top-seeded Boston as the Red Sox won the ALCS in five games (4-1). The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers in their respective league to earn their right to play in the World Series for the second straight season. The Dodgers were looking to avenge their 2017 defeat, but the Red Sox had other plans.

Game three was 18 innings long, lasting up to seven hours and twenty minutes. To put that into perspective, that is the entire length of the entire 1939 World Series which lasted seven hours and five minutes for all four games. The Dodgers wound up winning that game but they ultimately fell short in the series.

Steve Pearce won the World series MVP, as he had three homeruns in the five-game series, which is the same amount as Red Sox legend David Ortiz had during his entire career in World Series games, as he played in three different title series. David Price, who pithced the first and last out of the series, was an honorable mention. The Boston Red Sox had a dominant season and finished on top of the baseball universe yet again.
