Transitioning to Long Distance Dating during Quarantine
May 1, 2020
The longer we stay inside to prevent the virus from spreading, the longer we are away from our loved ones. This can be detrimental to relationships, from spending every day with each other to now practically being in a long-distance relationship can make or break some couples. It is a hard switch, but it shouldn’t mean the end, unless this is your excuse to getting out of something that isn’t working.
It can also be easy to take some time away from each other. This time can be used towards practicing self-love. It is important to remember to love yourself while in a relationship, or else how are you going to love someone else? While taking this time away, there are a lot of tips that can be taken to make a long-distance relationship go smoothly. The best thing to focus on is communication. It is beneficial to keep communication at a healthy level and to not try to over-communicate. The more dependent you become on talking to your significant other, the more their lack of communication can affect your moods. This is because you rely on their attention to give you happiness.
You can use this time to rebuild the lust between one another. Send your lover a risky text every once in a while to remind them on your attraction to them. This conversation can lead to sexting, and the more sexting, the better the sex will be when you are finally reunited. Spending weeks and days on end without feeling the touch of your partner can be torturous. But if you think about it, the more you crave their touch, the better it feels to feel it again. It can be easy for conversations to go dry after not seeing each other, so try to remind yourself why you’re in this relationship and remind your partner why you chose each other.
The most important issue in a long-distance relationship is to try and see each other. Making plans is all you must look forward to in your relationship. I spoke to two Huskies on how they are dealing with transitioning to long-distance relationships during this quarantine. The first Husky I spoke to said they are making plans to see each other once a month and facetiming whenever they have the time to. The second one said she is traveling every other week to live with her boyfriend for a week or so then driving back home for a week and has been doing that back and forth since the quarantine began. There are many options to figure out seeing each other and staying protected. Just figure out what works best in your relationship!
