After a frustrating loss last week. Where the Huskies gave up the lead late in the fourth quarter. The Huskies got back on track as they defeated Clarion University on the road with a score of 21-7.
The Huskies set the tone early on the road. As Jr. Linebacker Tom Goetz intercepted a pass on Clarion’s first possession. Which led to a Huskies touchdown by Jr. Defensive Back Nate Capers who covered the ball in the end zone for the Huskies.
The Huskies defense only gave up seven points which came in the second quarter. After that was a shutout as the Huskies held the Golden Eagles to zero points in the last two quarters of the game. Including four interceptions overall from the Huskies defense
Goetz was big for the Huskies as he hauled in 2 interceptions along with five tackles. Redshirt Fr. Linebacker Brady Thompson finished with a team high nine tackles. Huskies defensive leader Sr. Quentin Gaskill finished with an interception and eight tackles. The Huskies defensive made a statement they gave up 34 points week one to Fairmont State.
On the offensive side Jr. Running back Kaleb Monaco finished with 126 yards on 19 carries including a 63 yard touchdown. Soph. Quarterback KJ Riley was steady all day for the Huskies as he went 14-20 for 155 yards . Soph. Wide Receiver Jerry Griffen-Batchler led the receivers as he caught six passes for 86 yards. Fr. Running back Matt Buchman saw the end zone for the Huskies as he scored on a five yard one.
Golden Eagles, Kahlil Owens, had 64 receiving yards. Gr. Quarterback Will Alexander finished 19-34 for 154 yards with 4 interceptions. With the loss the Golden Eagles fell to 1-1.
The Huskies look to keep the momentum going next week as they head home for the 2023 home opener.
