In the midst of waiting another day to play, senior pitcher JJ Spehrley put on perhaps the most dominating pitching performance of his career during Monday’s game against the Winston-Salem University Rams.

JJ was awarded the win for his heroic efforts pitching in 7.2 innings for the Huskies. The team gained their fourth consecutive win behind Spehrley in his first win of the 2019 season.

Spehrley had to wait until the fourth inning for run support to arrive when shortstop Nate Krizan flied out to right, advancing Cole Swiger across home-plate giving Spehrley and the Huskies their first lead of the game at 1-0.

Going into the sevenh inning of play, Spehrley still had not allowed a base-hit. The no-hitter was finally broken up after a Winton-Salem bunt in the top of the seventh inning with already one out.

Furthermore, Spehrley struck out five of WSSU’s batters during his spectacular outing. To add on, the Pottsville prodigy only walked one batter the entire game.

Junior Chad Cooperman relieved Spehrley and pitched the final two innings of relief in the Huskies’ 4-1 victory.
