The men’s indoor track and field team represented Bloomsburg University this past weekend, as the Huskies ended their season at Susquehanna University Open. They men boasted four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifiers.
Freshman Tyler Bailey started off the Huskies success, taking first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.00. Bailer is hot of his school record breaking run, against Youngstown State two weekends ago he ran the 800-meter run in 1:56.81 minutes, making him the new record holder for Bloomsburg. His rookie season has clearly been a fruitful one.
Freshman Hank Anderson scored a third place in the 60-meter when he ran the race in 8.70 seconds. Another freshman honing his craft, Anderson took second in the preliminary round after running the race with a time of 8.66.
The mile saw senior Tom Moser shine when he ran it with a time of 4.31.75 minutes, earning him the third overall spot in the event.
In field events, the Huskies found proficiency in the the triple jump and high jump events. Junior Owen Eisen, took sixth place when he jumped a distance of 12.33 meters. Alongside was sophomore A.J. Peapos, who’s high jump of 1.80 meters tied him for fourth place.
Top ten finishes were scored by the Huskies in the distance races as well. In the 5000-meter run, juniors Zach Bitner and Declan McDonald each found a spot in the top ten. Bitner’s time of 16.37.20 scored a fifth while McDonald was not far behind, taking sixth after crossing the finish line in 17.09.07 minutes.
Senior Dave Lauscar took charge in the 60-meter hurdles after posting up a time of 9.09 seconds to take the seventh place spot. The 800-meter saw sophomore Chris McCormack prove himself as he scored a fifth place spot for the Huskies in a time of 2.01.77.
The final hurdle of the Huskies will present itself this Saturday, February 23 onto the 24th as the men will travel to Edinboro University for the PSAC Championships at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome.
The Huskies are lucky to boast such talent from underclassmen. The careers of runners like Bailey and Anderson will be watched with great interest.
Looking to take this success to the spring season, the Huskies are optimistic to take control of their conference and beat out rivals like West Chester.
