    CU Announces “What if Analysis”

On March 1st, 2024, an email to all Commonwealth University students announced a new function on Degree Works called the “What-If Analysis.” This new feature allows students to see what would happen if they wanted to pick a new major, minor or concentration. Not all curriculum combinations that students may choose are legitimate, as you are able to choose any combination of majors, minors, or concentrations.

According to a mass email sent out to CU students following the features release, the “What if Analysis” is designed to help students who are contemplating adding to their degree, find out what works for them. This process allows students to see how many credits more credits they will need to take in order to add/earn the major/minor and how many credits have been applied. It will also list out different electives in that area that can be taken and it will also show different concentrations that you can choose from.

Only classes that exist in the Commonwealth catalog can be used in the what-if analysis. Degree Works will not save the analysis that you create, but you are able to print it out.

This analysis will not directly change your major/minor/concentration as you must submit a change of major request to the Office of the Registrar. You can also reach out to your academic advisor and the department that you would like to add or change to. The “What if Analysis” can be used as a tool for scheduling and planning out your degree.
