Meet The Voice: Sierra Edwards Managing Editor

Continuing down the line of our staff members, our Tuesday night Managing Editor is Sierra Edwards! She was born in Elwyn, Pennsylvania and currently lives in Delaware County. She went to Ridley High School and graduated in 2014.

She came to Bloomsburg in the fall of 2014 as an Early Childhood/Special Education major. In the middle of her sophomore year, she decided to go down another direction and become an English major with a Literature concentration and a minor in Professional Writing and Digital Rhetoric.
Sierra started her Voice career last November as a “fill-in” Features editor for Dr. Decker’s Seminar class and decided to stay on as a staff writer. She shortly became assistant Opinions editor last Spring semester and was never afraid to have her opinions heard loud and clear. Once she was in the office after doing it for her class, she found it hard to leave and not be with the staff, who she quickly befriended.

While being at Bloomsburg, Sierra has been involved with different organizations on campus. Since her freshman year, she was an active member of the Bloomsburg University Marching Band, playing the clarinet. She then did Concert Band in the next semester after that and continued to play in the band for all four years. She also became a member of Tau Beta Sigma, a national honorary service sorority. She currently is just managing editor here at the Voice since she graduates in December.

Sierra loves anything involving music, art, books, or just relaxing with a cup of coffee. You could probably find her in Bakeless or Husky, doing one of many reading assignments for her classes. Otherwise, she’ll be at her apartment decorating for the upcoming holidays, online shopping, or planning her next tattoo.

Back at home, she has a new loving pup named Izzy who is the light of her life and who she tries to visit every other weekend while being back at Bloomsburg.

After graduation in December, Sierra plans to gain some experience with publishing companies and/or newspaper companies in Philly since she lives so close by to the area. In a few years, she wants to move to Boston, along with her dog Izzy, and continue a career in publishing.

Sierra loves being apart of this family here at The Voice and appreciates the opportunities that she has received while being here. It offers a lot of experience for what she could do in a future career and let her be able to practice and hone in on her writing style.

Since she worked for opinions, she’s always been asked “How do you write an opinions article?” And her response has been “If you have an opinion on something and you can back it up with some facts, then let it rip. You can get your voice heard and made known. Just because you have an opinion that may be different than someone else, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t say it. Everyone deserves a chance to have their time to make a statement and it’s always fun to have your article be a topic of discussion!”

She encourages students to “get out there and just write! I used to suck at writing and I became an English major. All you need is practice and eventually, you’ll notice a style in your writing that suits you and the rest will flow. We’re always looking for new writers, so don’t be afraid to send in something!”
