Commonwealth University is still searching for a permanent president. However, there has been only one candidate thus far — our current interim president, Jeffrey Osgood.
Since stepping into his new role, Osgood has demonstrated a consistent commitment to community and student engagement.
At a time when transitions in leadership can often feel uncertain, his presence has instead provided a sense of stability. Rather than remaining behind the scenes, he has made a visible effort to connect with students, faculty, and staff in meaningful ways.
When addressing student concerns, Osgood responds with urgency and a genuine willingness to help find solutions. Even when an issue falls outside his direct authority, he ensures that students are guided to the appropriate resources and follows up afterward.
This kind of follow-through reflects a leadership style rooted not just in listening, but accountability.
He has also maintained a strong presence at campus events, making himself accessible and approachable.
Whether attending student programs, engaging in conversations, or simply being present in shared spaces, he has shown that leadership is not confined in an office — it is built through relationships.
Transparency has been another defining characteristic of Osgood. He has not shied away from addressing difficult issues.
Instead, he communicates openly with the campus community. He explains decisions rather than simply announcing them, fostering understanding and trust during a period of institutional changes.
As CU continues the search for a permanent president, it is with recognizing the leadership already in place. Osgood has demonstrated the ability to listen, communicate clearly, and remained engaged with the people who make this university what it truly is.
These qualities are not only valuable in an interim role but are essential for long-term success.
For these reasons, I believe Osgood would be a strong fit to serve as our permanent president and guide the university in a positive direction.
