PREVIEW:Wrestling travels to first ever MAC Championships

Anna Watson, Sports Writer

This weekend, The Bloomsburg Men’s Wrestling Team will travel to DeKalb, Illinois for the 2020 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Wrestling Championships, hosted by Northern Illinois University.
Bloomsburg is one of fifteen teams who will be competing./; in the second largest wrestling conference in the country.
The other teams include Buffalo, Central Michigan, Clarion, Cleveland State, Edinboro, George Mason, Kent State, Lock Haven, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Old Dominion, Ohio, Rider, and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
With that being said, the Huskies must be on their A-game if they want to dominate over the opposition.
With an overall record of just 3-10 this season, Bloomsburg looks to snap a four match losing streak in this weekend’s conference.
In their last meet of the regular season vs. Old Dominion University, the Huskies had only one victory, coming from redshirt senior Trevor Allard.
With his win over ODU’s Antonio Agee, Allard upgraded to 21-2 as a whole, and completed the year with a 12-1 mark in duals.
Additionally with this success, Allard fell just shy of the 100-win club, finishing his career with 93 dual wins.
Aside from this, just recently the final February Wrestling Team Rankings were released, and the 15 schools were evaluated.
This was contingent on the number of first through sixth-place votes that were earned in the individual voting system.
Moreover, a first-place vote was worth six team points; a second-place vote earned five; third-place were worth four, fourth-place earned three, fifth-place earned two, and a sixth-place vote received one point in the team ranking system.
Unfortunately in February, the Huskies were ranked in 13th place, tied with George Mason with a total of six points.
With that, the Huskies hope to gain some experience in a big competition setting this weekend, as they travel to the MAC Wrestling Championships for the first time in program history. Action gets underway on Saturday, March 7, and will draw to a close on Sunday, March 8.
