Four Greek Life Organizations Face Disaffiliation with Bloomsburg University

After Bloomsburg implemented their strict ‘zero-tolerance policy’ in December of 2019, four Greek life organizations face suspension and disaffiliation with the university. It was noted in an email sent to BU students on Thursday that Sigma Iota Omega (ΣΙΩ), Chi Theta Pi (ΧΘΠ), Kappa Delta Rho (ΚΔΡ), and Lambda Chi Alpha (ΛΧΑ) will face immediate disaffiliation with Bloomsburg.

The fraternity, Sigma Iota Omega, was suspended for four years based on a citation from Bloomsburg police after “hosting a gathering of approximately 80 people” during the coronavirus pandemic. This is not the first time Sigma Iota Omega has found themselves on the universities Institutional Hazing Report; they’ve been reported five times for hazing and illegal pledging.

In Spring of 2020, Chi Theta Pi, faced suspension for five years after a report was filed that “new members experienced hazing in the form of being yelled at, being put into a dark storage room, and excessive memorization of unimportant information.” It was also reported that Chi Theta Pi served alcohol on bids night, despite the entire class being underage at the time. Only two months later, another report was filed after the sorority failed to comply with the charges and took on a “new member class while being on interim suspension.” After a formal hearing, the sorority was suspended. Chi Theta Pi has only been mentioned on the universities hazing report twice.

Kappa Delta Rho found themselves on the hazing report in spring of 2020 for “a list of what appears to be mandatory, unapproved activities for new members.” This is only the second time Kappa Delta Rho has been mentio

ned on the report. The organization has been suspended for four years.

Lambda Chi Alpha faces suspension, pending a formal hearing. The fraternity is listed twice on the report, once for sexual misconduct in the spring semester after a report was filed that an “ESU female student was allegedly sexually assaulted at a party at the Lambda Chi Alpha house.” This report is followed by another that was from “a complainant stating that he was punched in the ribs by a member(s) of Lambda Chi Alpha while picking up his girlfriend. Underage drinking and failure to comply was noted as well.

The email sent to BU students states that for any student organizations that have not received any violations in the last year, the current probation period will be extended through Spring of 2022. The email continues to say that “Any future infraction administered to any of these student organizations during the spring semester of 2021, and continuing, will result in immediate disaffiliation for all the remaining FSL organizations.”
