Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg offers a farmers market for students on Friday mornings, featuring fresh produce, baked goods, floral arrangements, and more from local vendors. Occurring every Friday, now through October, there will be a multitude of local vendors selling their products on campus.
In addition to the vendors and their products, University Dining Services supplies free coffee at the market for students to enjoy while walking around and shopping. Throughout the day, many students can be seen at the market, looking at all the products offered, talking to vendors, and enjoying their goodies. This market is located between Navy Hall and Bakeless Center from 9am to 1pm and features a different variety of vendors and products each week.
Vendor Spotlights
Rohrbach’s Farm Market
Rohrbach’s Farm Market sells all different types of produce such as apples, pears, winter squash, gourds, floral arrangements, tomatoes, and chestnuts. They also have many different bakery items, all of which are homemade, the most popular being their apple dumplings. Rohrbach’s Farm Market has been at this campus farmers market for three years now, but that is not the only place to buy their products. They also sell their goods at a farmers market in Catawissa, PA, as well as at other local town events and fairs in the area.
This company has been up and running since 1955, so they are going on 70 years of business. Adam Orlando, orchard manager for the company, explains his passion for coming to this Bloomsburg farmers market, saying he has really enjoyed working with students. He states, “they participate, they come in, they ask questions, they are buying stuff so I feel like its overall been pretty good.”
Kitch by CK
Kitch by CK is a company that sells gluten free baked goods, of both sweet and savory varieties. These products include cakes, cookies, donuts, scones, etc. and can also be found at the Bloomsburg farmers market, which takes place on Saturday mornings on the Bloomsburg fair ground. This business has been established for about a year and this is their second time selling at this Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg farmers market.
Courtney Megargell, the owner and head baker of the company, has had a positive experience at the market so far, saying the people she meets are “very friendly.” She goes on to state, “I wasn’t expecting the outcome I guess; everyone is really welcoming.” She says she enjoys coming here and interacting with the Bloomsburg students.
Davis Grown
Another vendor featured at the campus farmers market is Davis Grown. Davis Grown is a family-owned company that sells meats such as beef, pork, chicken, and turkey, as well as sourdough baked goods, apple cider, and produce. You can also find these products at their farm stand in Zion Grove, as well as other festivals in the fall and the Bloomsburg farmers market in the summer.
Davis Grown has been in the family for about thirty years now, but they began selling meats 12 years ago and became an official business 5 years ago. Crystal, the co-owner of Davis Grown, explained that a big factor that sets their company apart from others is that everything they use in their products is grown on their farm. She states, “everything is ours. So, it is either born and raised on our farm or it is grown there, we don’t buy anything out.”
It is not over yet
A few other local businesses being represented at the farmers market are Smack My Mouth Foods, Keiner’s Apiary, Gibs Farm, Terrapin’s Salsa, and more.
Be sure to stop by the farmers market Friday, October 4th, from 9am-1pm to try some of these delicious products.
