Midsemester blues

It’s about that time in the semester when we become fatigued and unmotivated to do any work. We are all waiting for the summer to arrive and classes to be over while we must study for exams and do our homework.  All we want to do is hang out and sleep, but duty calls. We asked some Huskies if they experience these blues and what they do to push through.

“Yes , yes and yes. The mid-semester blues are a real thing. There’s no true way to prevent it but what always keeps me going is thinking about my grades, going to grad school and making Dean’s List. These are some of the things I think about to keep me motivated most times. Other times, I’ll reward myself with Starbucks or Dunkin’ if I go to the library and get work done. Sometimes you just need a day to do nothing but watch TV and be lazy because it’s okay to do so.”

– Hannah Mendygral, junior Biology major, Criminal Justice minor

“Living in New York makes it hard being here. At this time of the year, I just wish it was summer and I am with all my friends. To get through this funk I just surround myself with close friends and continue to study hard.”

– Kristen Pepe, junior ASL/English Interpreting major, Legal Studies minor

“I am definitely feeling the mid-semester blues. Especially right now with the snow! I so over the show and cold. My focus during these times is trying to focus on school and keeping my grades up. I try to redirect my attention to more important things.”

– Brie Tulskie, junior Accounting major

Well my whole semester is blue. But yes at this point I am trying to balance being excited that I am so close to being done and being at the same time, I’m only half way there. I cope by looking at the bigger picture. Like it’s hard right now but I have come so far and every day is  a day closer to getting done.”

-Brianne Leven, senior Nursing major

“I always feel like that around this time of year. I always make sure I give myself a lot of free time to relax. Netflix is my go-to.”

– Kristin Boyles, sophomore Creative Writing Major

“Honestly in the beginning of semester, I was ahead of the game. However a few weeks ago, I was assigned a couple of papers all at once and that’s when I got overwhelmed. I honestly don’t know if it’s the weather or just the workload of the book I was assigned that happened all at once. However, at times I do feel a lack of motivation around this time of the semester I’m definitely not a straight A student but I do hold my own when it comes to my GPA.”

– John Thomas, junior Criminal Justice major, Legal Studies minor
