The Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team went 3-13 from the field in the fourth quarter of play before falling on the road to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East opponent Lock Haven University on Wednesday night by a final score of 68-53.

With the loss, the Huskies dropped to 12-12 (9-11 PSAC) overall while the Bald Eagles improved to 12-12 (9-10 PSAC) with the victory. The loss comes big to Bloomsburg, as the Huskies had the opportunity to clinch the fifth seed of the east division in the PSAC tournament with a win over Lock Haven. Lock Haven now has control of fifth place in the East with the win over BU on Wednesday night.

Senior Bella Ricci and junior Emma Saxton led the way for the Huskies with a combined 35 of the teams 53 points. Junior Megan Brandt came next on the stat sheet for Bloomsburg with eight points on the night.

The Huskies found themselves behind big in the game for a majority of the contest until a third quarter run brought Bloomsburg within seven points. A sloppy fourth quarter offensively for the Huskies allowed the Bald Eagles to pull away and jump ahead in the conference standings. 

Bink Redman led Lock Haven with 19 points and nine rebounds on the night while Jaynell Robinson chipped in an identical 13 points and 13 rebounds in the win for the Bald Eagles. 

Bloomsburg has plenty ahead to look forward to as the Huskies and Bald Eagles are closely fighting for the fifth seed in the conference. Shippensburg (1), Shepherd (2), East Stroudsburg (3) and Kutztown (4) all are clinched to represent the East in the tournament. 

The Huskies return home to the Nelson Field House for a big game against first place Shippensburg University, before welcoming Kutztown the following Wednesday night. Lock Haven rounds out the season with games against West Chester, East Stroudsburg and Millersville.

 The top six teams of the Eastern and Western division will make the PSAC tournament prior to the end of the regular season. West Chester (8-16, 6-13 PSAC), sits behind Lock Haven and Bloomsburg in the East at seventh place overall.

 The Huskies and Shippensburg is set to tip-off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Nelson Field House. Bloomsburg will now need two wins in the final two games against Shippensburg and Kutztown to start a fiery run into the postseason.
