Meal swipes are becoming more and more useless as the years go by. If you are going to Husky Lounge for a meal good luck finding anything $6.60 or under! There are a few meal deals at various points of the day such as the 3 cheese slices and a drink, pizza deal. Along with this comes the problem of options. If you want a sandwich you can get one for a swipe from the hours of 11-3 but any other time good luck. After the sandwich shop in Husky closes, the only sandwich you can get will cost $7.29, dipping into your flex. Even a simple salad is going to dip into your flex by $2. The meal swipe almost becomes obsolete unless you’re dining in the Scranton Commons or scheduling out your meals perfectly. I think the student population would benefit if the school decided to make things simpler. Dining is a key factor in a students day to day life, making prices lower and under $6.60 would allow for easier use of meal plans. Another key issue is Roongo’s Cafe. The most convenient spot on campus to get food between classes only takes flex and card. This is a bizarre choice considering that they serve many of the same items that Husky Lounge does for the same price but no cash equivalency. Many other universities offer cash equivalency for not only the school’s dining establishments but even chains. Our Dunkin doesn’t even take gift cards. Hardly any of our chains do for that matter and it is one of the main reasons I stick mostly to Husky and Commons. Bento and Subway both take swipes for cash and they aren’t even University owned. Why can they do that but Roongos can’t? Back on the subject of our campus Dunkin, last semester coupons were handed out all over campus, yet the Dunkin on campus wouldn’t take them. I understand these coupons were for a different location, but, it is strange that the company would advertise on a college campus and not use their own promotions. Additionally, there used to be large digital signage in our Dunkin for a $6 meal available at all other locations. It was advertised as though it was an option, but the location never provided such a deal. Consistency across dining would make campus life a lot easier.
