Cats in Bloom reached their “Raise the Region” fundraising goal, a huge achievement for the organization.
Cats in Bloom is a non-profit cat café that helps stray cats find homes. For the public, the café provides a hang out spot and a place for people to adopt the cats.
The cat café is beloved not only by the town of Bloomsburg, but by the CU-Bloomsburg students.
These donations allow the non-profit to continue helping homeless, stray and injured cats in the region.
The Raise the Region fundraiser
On March 13, 2026, Cats in Bloom announced on their Facebook that they met their Raise the Region goal.
“Raise the Region” is a 30 hour online giving campaign for non-profits all throughout the north central Pennsylvania region. The campaign is sponsored through the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania (FCFP).
The Raise the Region and FCFP are sponsored by other businesses in ways including premier sponsorships, prize and incentive sponsorships, and media sponsorships.
However for Cats in Bloom, it’s a chance to raise money to better take care of felines in need.
“For us at Cats in Bloom it’s our largest online fundraiser of the year,” says Keara Klose, Cats in Bloom’s social and online fundraising manager. “It was $20k total with matching possibly around $24k,” Klose said.
The funds will not be used for those who work at the café. Klose says that nobody at Cats in Bloom is a staff member, it’s entirely volunteer run, with the exception of CU-Bloomsburg work study students who get paid through financial aid. The money goes completely towards the betterment of the cats.
Student thoughts
Kamryn Bennett, a sophomore Bloomsburg student, thinks that Cats in Bloom is a great organization.
“I have seen a lot of stray cats in Bloomsburg since coming here, and I’m glad that they are able to find them homes,” says Bennett. “All the cats and kittens are very well taken care of and I always have fun every time I go.”
Bennet says she imagines all donations go to providing the cats food, toys and other essentials.
“Obviously they’re doing something right because every time I pass by, the number on their adoption banner on the front of the building goes up,” Bennett said.
Cats in Bloom background
The money from Raise the Region would carry the organization through the years.
At any given time, there’s 40 plus cats housed in the café. On average, the organization has from 80 to 140 cats in foster.
“Every single one of those cats needs to be spay neutered, needs to be updated on their vaccines, an initial wellness visit at the vet… However, a lot of the cats that we see are community cats or neglected or abandoned and abused… the money goes to getting the cats healthy,” says Klose.
Cats in Bloom It was founded in 2019. The organization prides itself in being a low stress, homelike environment for people to mix and mingle with cats.
The future of Cats in Bloom
For the short-term future, the café is about 50 adoptions away from reaching their goal of 2,000.
“It’s just so great to have this kind of support for cats in the community… I love the matchmaking part of this, and educating people on the importance of saving these little beings,” says Klose.
For the long-term future, Cats in Bloom is preparing for a higher intake in felines, as April usually brings in more kittens.
“We’re just going to continue doing what we’re doing,” Klose said.
