The Bloomsburg University Women’s Basketball team suffered a loss to the Kutztown University Golden Bears in a final score of 66-55.

Junior Emma Saxton lead the Huskies with 19 points pacing all other players on the court. Following the Saxton was senior Taylor Montana. She scored 13 points on the hardwood, including her 1,000th career point during her tenure at Bloomsburg University.

Despite Saxton and Montana’s efforts, they could not stop the Golden Bears’ offense. Rylee Derr, Zoe Zerman, Brianna Tarabocchia and Casey Remolde all scored double digit points with Derr leading the team with 15 points.

The Huskies had a strong first half, scoring 10 points in the first quarter and 18 points in the second quarter. The Huskies outscored the Golden Bears by four points going into half time but couldn’t match their first half intensity.

After halftime the Golden Bears stomped up and down the court nearly matching their first half score with 23 points. Along with the their offensive domination, they also stymied Bloomsburg’s offense. The Huskies were 4-17 from the field and were not fouled during the process. They scored nine points in the quarter.

Meanwhile Kutztown made 46% of their field goals and made all of their free-throws. After the 6:30 mark, Kutztown wouldn’t relinquish their lead.

At the end of the third quarter the Kutztown was leading 47-37. The Huskies put 18 points in the final quarter but could not match the Golden Bears 19 points in the quarter.

The final score shouldn’t overshadow the historic night for Taylor Montana. Montana is in rare company after she surpassed the 1,000th point threshold. She is only one of 25 women to be in the exlusive 1,000 point club.

The Huskies look to snap their two game losing streak on Saturday. The team will travel to Millersville to battle the Marauders on hard floor.
