The students behind the band
Cigarette Yellow is an alternative composed of three Bloomsburg students:
The Drummer: Max Fedder, a senior with a major in business management and a minor in music technology.
The Bassist: Gavin Crumb, a senior history major.
The Guitarist: Micheal Evert, a senior health science physical therapy major.
The journey of Cigarette Yellow
The band came together officially in March of 2025, but the relationships between the members started years prior. The trio started off as roommates before they were bandmates. “Max and I have been friends since third grade,” Crumb said, “I met Michael a little before high school.”
The bassist describes how they were all good friends and when the time to find a place to live came around, they chose each other. “That’s why I think when we play together, it’s easy because we know each other so well.”
The chemistry within Cigarette Yellow comes from their friendships, and it shows when they perform. Their first performance was at the Audio Club’s music festival at the end of the Spring 2025 semester. They have also played five times at Bloomsburg’s local shop Phillip’s Emporium. The Honeysuckle apartments have become a makeshift venue for the band as well.
Crumb says “People from neighborhoods have shown up from all over.”
The band is currently finding themselves by covering songs. When describing what they like to play, Evert says, “We have a wide spectrum.” From classic rock, to alternative, to emo; anything Cigarette Yellow likes they cover. Their inspiration is derived from rock artists. Included in this is Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana and Ozzy Osbourne.
Cigarette Yellow is just getting started. They are taking their Bloomsburg locality on the road starting in January, where they will be on their “Make a Scene Micro-Tour”.
