Led Zeppelin – one of the most iconic rock and roll bands in history. The band originated in England, 1968, containing vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. Their song, “Your Time Is Gonna Come” truly captures the essence of the group. Released in 1969, this composition resides on their debut, self-titled album. The genre is purely rock; however, it is relentlessly experimental, especially for its time. The song holds classic rock elements like guitar and drums, but it opens with a haunting simultaneous two-track organ solo played by John Paul Jones, holding an almost sacrilegious component. It also includes Jimmy Page playing an outof- tune Fender 800, which is a 10-string steel guitar. The instrumentals in this piece are not your typical rock components. The usage of different instruments is bizarre, yet it creates an extraordinary, otherworldly experience when listening. The lyrics follow an unfaithful woman, who in time will get payback for her deceitful ways. The first verse sets the stage clearly with lyrics stating, “Lyin’, cheatin’, hurtin’, that’s all you seem to do / Messin’ around with every guy in town”. The chorus chants the same line over again, “your time is gonna come”, ensuring we know that karma will find its way. Plant’s voice tells a story, he shows emotion through his vocals rather than just singing a song. Before the chorus repeats a second time, the lyric “You’ve been bad to me woman / But it’s coming back home to you” arises. Robert Plant belts these words, in the track you can feel the anger he is looking to portray. The song as a whole takes you on a rollercoaster of sadness, anger and frustration. He uses his musicality to make you feel. That’s exactly what Led Zeppelin looks to put out into the world. The entirety of their first album features songs that will make you experience a multitude of raw, genuine, human emotion. While “Your Time Is Gonna Come” has you feel sentiments of anger and distress, songs like “Good Times Bad Times” will make you want to dance with lyrics describing the mixture of positives and negatives life holds. Zeppelin is more than just a rock band. It’s honest and expiramental. This group uses all musical elements to mystify their audience. “Your Time Is Gonna Come” is an excellent example of what the band is made of.
