Coming into their April 4th contest at Pettit Field, the Bloomsburg Lacrosse team were facing an uphill battle. Their opponents were the fifth ranked East Stroudsburg Warriors. On the line for each team were hopes to keep or gain a ranking in the PSAC Conference.
In the first period of play, the Huskies’ offense was explosive, scoring three times. This was matched in the second period with the Huskies going into halftime up 6-3.
In the first half, it was senior midfielder, Amanda Stoll, orchestrating the impressive lead. She scored two of the six points herself and assisted on scores by Cassidy Griffin and Kate Roberts. The two other scores of the half were completed by sophomore Brianna Austin.
In the second half of the game, after a Husky goal by Kayla Stressman assisted by Madison Coyle. The Warriors tried to stage a comeback; East Stroudsburg scored four unanswered points throughout the third and fourth period. With the game tied and around eight minutes left, Bloomsburg’s Stressman scored her second goal of the game putting the Warriors on their back foot. The Huskies game was sealed when Senior Katie Fluck shot her free position shot after being fouled on her previous attempt. With three minutes on the clock, East Stroudsburg was unable to touch the two-point lead, and the Huskies edged out a 9-7 victory over the Warriors.
On Bloomsburg’s defensive side, goalkeeper Lauren Foley made fifteen saves in the contest, including her 400th career save. She and senior defender, Amanda Biehl, whose two turnovers and four ground balls anchored the team’s defense. This places Bloomsburg in the top three of the East in the PSAC behind Kutztown and West Chester.
