Men’s Soccer looks to finish 2018 season strong: Huskies beat California University of PA and tie Caldwell with only one game left

The Bloomsburg Men’s Soccer team defeated the visiting Vulcans from California University of Pennsylvania this past Saturday, winning a tight 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory. The Huskies improved to 7-9 (4-6 PSAC) overall on the year.

Despite breaking a four-game losing streak, the Huskies will not be making it to the postseason due to a Seton Hill victory over East Stroudsburg this past Friday.

The game’s only goal of the night was scored by redshirt sophomore Luis Partida with only 8:37 left to play. The tally was his first collegiate goal and scored the goal off a great set of passes from sophomores Carter Luckenbaugh and Lael Cherry. Finding a loose ball around midfield, Luckenbaugh fired a bullet to Cherry running down the left wing. A pass sent right to an open Partida allowed him to shoot and beat the Vulcan goalkeeper.

With the assist for the pair of sophomores, Luckenbaugh is now tied in the league for leading number of assists at seven. The conference was led by Luckenbaugh last year as well, with him having 11 assists during his freshman year.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brock Gould proved himself to be the iron curtain for the California offense, completely shutting them out in the game’s latter half. This was Gould’s first shutout of the season with two saves in the victory. Gould is now is at 5-6 for the season. Despite being outshot in the game’s first half 8-3, the Huskies came back aggressively in the second, outshooting the Vulcans 13-0 and maintained a lead in corner kicks 7-4.

Before the game, Blooomsburg honored senior Kevin Rodriguez as he was honored as the team’s single senior in BU’s annual senior night.

Bloomsburg is now 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the PSAC. The final games of the season for the Huskies will be on the road as the Huskies travel to Caldwell on Wednesday and to Pitt-Johnson on Saturday to conclude their 2018 season.

The Huskies then travled to Caldwell University (NJ) for a non-conference battle.

Bloomsburg fell down to 1-0 just four minutes into the contest off an impressive set of Caldwell passes.

In the 33rd minute, Caldwell made their worst decision of the game giving Huskies star Tyler Maderia a penalty kick which of course, the junior put in the back of the net.

Both teams then went scoreless for the remainder of the match and both over time periods, resulting in a 1-1 tie between the teams.
