Walking to Commons and the Kehr Union Building has looked a little different this semester.
Bloomsburg University has been undergoing multiple construction projects throughout the this past summer. All maintenance to campus was expected to be complete by August 18th.
Due to the construction in the Carver Hall area, there are inconvenient blockages.
“It’s not the worst thing in the world,” Senior Myah Stackhouse said. “It is frustrating though, I don’t even know what they are doing.”
Steam Lines on campus were to be taken out and replaced but, once digging began other projects were found.
“We also found additional utilities that needed maintenance once we got down there,”said Stacy Wagner, Bloomsburg Campus Associate Vice President of Facilities Management. “We had a lot of rain this summer that caused some scheduling delays.”
Campus construction is mostly completed during breaks so that when students come back, everything is top notch.
“We want all of our students to think campus is beautiful,” Wagner said. “But, we do understand the pain of construction. It’s a pain for us to get more things done with students on campus too.”
Plans for the Steam Lines to be complete are estimated to mid-October in order for heat to be disbursed onto campus.
There is no more planned construction for the remainder of the academic year, besides the renovations of the McCormick building.
McCormick is estimated to be complete in May of 2025, with construction ending in December of 2024.
Some of the scheduled summer maintenance that has been completed was, fire alarm replacements, sidewalk re-pavement, resurfacing of the tennis courts and a renovation of Lycoming Hall.
