Mount Olympus Apartments (MOA) is allegedly closing for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Bloomsburg resident assistants (RAs) were told in a staff meeting that MOA will be offline for the ‘26-’27 school year on Oct. 21. The RAs leaked a photo of the paper they received at the meeting, where this information was announced. The leaked photo says that there will be a “two-year residency requirement lottery.” RAs explained that this means that 200 students will be approved to sign a lease with “affiliated housing” residencies, including Honeysuckle Student Apartments and Advanced Student Housing. Honeysuckle is owned by Commonwealth University- Bloomsburg’s Community Government Association. Advanced Student Housing is owned by the university.
the Voice emailed Amy Cunningham, the Associate Director of Residence Life, on Oct. 28. Mark Turnbough, the Director of Housing and Residence Life, was reached out to on Oct. 29. Neither party responded to The Voice’s request for a comment. The Voice also emailed Stacy Wagner, the Chief of Facilities and Safety Officer, on Oct. 29. Wagner replied and directed The Voice back to Cunningham. The Voice visited the Housing and Residence Life department office in person on Oct. 31. The office assistants said that Turnbough wasn’t in and they didn’t know when he would be back, but Cunnigham may be available. The Voice scheduled to meet with Cunningham on Nov. 3.
The Voice met with Cunningham in person. When presented with the information from the RA’s, Cunningham explained that nothing is set in stone and she was not comfortable making a statement at this time. The Voice emailed Eric Foster, Editor of Strategic Communications and Marketing, on Nov. 3 as another attempt to get a university comment. Foster responded the same day, saying, “I don’t have any information to share.”
While the university is unwilling to speak on this issue, students are speaking out in concern about the rumours. Julie Stapleton, a sophomore at Bloomsburg and an MOA resident, shares her thoughts on the potential closure and housing lottery.
“I am saddened to hear about MOA possibly closing, I have made a lot of friends and built a foundation that works for me. . . I think the housing lottery doesn’t exactly make things easier, as there will easily be people left out,” Stapleton said
The Voice will continue reporting on this developing story.
