The Bloomsburg Police Department has caught and identified a 19-year-old boy as the shooter from Nov. 1.
On Nov. 1 at around 11:30 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the upper hip by at least one round at the 300 block of East Street.
According to the police report, there were three rounds total shot by a handgun. At the time, the suspect was last seen on surveillance footage running north on East Street towards East 3rd Street. The suspect was described as male wearing a dark colored sweatshirt, red pants, black and white sneakers and a black beanie style hat. The Bloomsburg Police Department turned to the town’s community, asking for any information that could be provided.
According to court documents, the victim said he was walking next to a group of people when the shooting occurred. The suspect was wearing a mask, pulled out a gun and started shooting.
The investigation went on for five days. Tips and surveillance footage were sent to the police by multiple residents and businesses and a confidential source informed the police on the shooter’s identity. The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Samuel Charles Evans. Another source recognized Evans from social media, and said that he was wearing the same outfit in an online post that matched the suspects description.
According to the Bloomsburg town police report, Evans is being charged with:
- Attempted Criminal Homicide
- Aggravated Assault
- Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- Firearms Not to Be Carried Without a Deadly Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon
- Terroristic Threats with Intent to Terrorize Another
- Recklessly Endangering Another Person
With help from the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force, Evans was taken into custody without incident at his residence in Mahony City. Evans has been jailed in the Columbia County Prison on bail of $500,000. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 19 at 2:30 p.m.
